Showdown: Butcher is a story event found in the Kingdom Death: Monster Core Game rulebook.

There once was a man who could not hide his fear. He wore a mask that transformed his cowardice to rage. In turn, the man transformed into a monster. All that remained was a devouring fury that stalked the night, collecting the fearful faces of others.

The Butcher is an inspiration. Any victorious survivors may immediately select Axe weapon proficiency, regardless of age milestones. (Any accrued ranks of weapon proficiency are lost when switching to a new weapon type.)

Roll 1d10 and add the Butcher's level to the result. The group gains any listed resources or gear. Add them to the settlement storage.

When a level 3+ Butcher is defeated roll 1d10:
On a result of 4+, nominate a survivor. The survivor cuts off their own face and fashions it into a mask, Gain the Forsaker Mask rare gear. You may gain the benefit once per campaign. If the settlement has Momento Mori, they gain the Forsaker Mask without rolling.
Defeat[]
The Butcher rampages through the settlement! Everyone escapes into the darkness until it leaves, but all resources in the settlement's storage are lost repairing the destruction.

- The rewards for the showdown erroneously refer to the Butcher Cleaver rare gear card as "Butcher's Cleaver".
- The aftermath reward table roll can be increased by defeating the Butcher via its Furious Scrag Death Blow hit location card.
